I have this i9950 that suddenly started to blink 5 orange flashes when I turned it on today (I haven't had it on for months, and just installed some ink cartridges before turning it on).
I've tried what Canon suggests on the FAQ about 5 blinks (take out the print head and cartridges, reinstall it, try again - and printer reset) a whole bunch of times without any luck.
I've also tried the "reset ink waste tank" thing, and the EEPROM init, a bunch of times, but w/o success.
One particular point is that w/o the print head installed at all, the printer actually seems happier than with it installed: it powers on, and goes green. But if I then try to print something, the Canon monitor says "Print head not installed!".
With the print head installed, the printer starts up with the moving-the-print-head routine, and then goes directly into blink-5-times mode, even w/o cartridges installed.
I'd love if someone gave me a link to the service manual, or just mailed it to me at online@stolsvik.com.
PS: the printer makes this tiny, very high pitched sound that it have never done before, like an old CRT TV set often does - does this give any clues?
PPS: Here's a hint for others, I hope: The printer wouldn't let me do the ink reset, since it started to blink 5 oranges before before even going into service mode (after the "power-off, hold-resume,then also power,release-resume (still hold power),press-resume-twice,release-both" procedure), but if I took out the print head first, it would work OK, and the green light would become steady, and then become orange-green-orange-green when hitting resume four times, and then when hitting power twice, I guess it did the reset (it then turned off), and when powering on again, it always sucks through one page w/o printing.

Check out e-bay for a company selling the i9950 service manual on CD. They are called Technitron Manuals. Search for them and they should come up. if not here is a link...
